Juanes Sweeps Major Latin Grammy Awards (AP) Three years ago, Juanes was a relative unknown and won dering whether hisdecision to move to Los Angeles and start a solo career was a good idea. Last week, theColombian singer- songwriter was showered with ti ve Latin Grammys, including album of the year for “Un Dia Norm al” (A Normal Day) and record and song o f the year for “Es Por Ti” (It’s For You). “ 1 never thought that this was going to happen to m e,” said Juanes, whose album “Un Dia Nor mal" spent a record 65 weeks on the Billboard Latincharts. “Threeyears ago I was lost completely in Los Angeles.” Juanes, wearing a black T-shirt that read, “Se Habla Español,” said he hoped his win would help people look at his homeland in a new light. “ I know a lot o f times, people have a bad image o f my country,” Colombian singer Ju a n es s p e a k s a fter winning a Latin Grammy Award for th e B e s t S o n g o f th e Year. he said. "That’s why it’s so impor tant for me to be here, to represent the other side o f Colombia.” After the ceremony, backstage, he said: “This is the most impres sive day in my life." While Juanes was the evening’s big winner, the show ’s most rous ing moment came at the start o f the show. Celia Cruz, who just a year ago kicked off the Latin Grammys with an electrifying performance, was given a posthumous tribute w ith a medley o f some o f her big gest hits. “Azucar!” -Cruz’s trademark ral lying cry - was the final shout o f the tribute, performed by Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Indiaand others.
